Last weekend was the Northeast Kingdom Fishing Derby. The derby got off to a great start as my brother caught the biggest yellow perch I have ever seen. On my digital scale, it weighed 2lbs. 2oz. which is the same weight as the vermont state record perch listed on the vermont fish and wildlife website. However, 8 hours elapsed from the time he caught it and when he weighed it in. Officially, on the scale it weighed 1.75 lbs. or 1lb. 12oz. This puts the fish very high on the record books, I believe tied for 7th. Here are some pics of the fish.
The rest of the weekend however did not go as well. We were targeting Pike and the largest we caught was 6lbs. 8oz. and a couple other smaller 3lb. fish. We did manage to catch some more really nice yellow perch from the same lake as the record fish. We probably could have caught many more of these, but as I said, we were focused on Pike.
Most of the weekend was spent looking at idle flags and trying to figure out where all the fish had gone too. At least we had beautiful scenery.
Nice Perch...way to go.
